Yucca nana – This is the rare Dwarf Soapwort from the deserts of Utah that forms small gray-green rosettes with some silvery coiled hairs emerging from the edges of the thick, fibrous sword-like blades. It is said to bloom sporadically and we have yet to see it flower in northeastern Connecticut. Photos show a beautiful and handsomely structured flowering event with spikes from 2’ to 3’ tall carrying densely-packed and evenly-spaced large white flowers held close to the stalk. The Dwarf Soapwort is a most worthy evergreen plant sited in full blazing sun planted in very sharply xeric conditions – probably best set on a south-facing slope in the northeast. Seed grown or by division.
