Podophyllum hexandrum (syn. ​emodi) – The Himalayan Mayapple sporting its lobed parasols of foliage nearly 10 inches in diameter is a striking woodlander. Upon emerging in spring the folded leaves are often bronze-purple to blackish. Large pink and sometimes white cupped flowers complement and contrast set at the crotch where the new leaves diverge. And the flowers unlike our native Mayapple are upturned displaying their lovely simplicity for all to see. The large red ovate seedpods which follow simply add to the marvelous ornamental qualities of this easy-to-grow perennial. Slow to moderate increase. Spring planting is advised in the north. Division or seed grown.
