Pennisetum alopecuroides ‘Foxtrot’ – is a very nice form of Giant Fountain Grass. The whip-like foliage arches and fountains as multitudes late season 6” to 9” inflorescences erupt over the leaves in a pinkish bronze-purple color looking every bit like foxtails bobbing and dancing in the breeze. We have ours planted with Leucanthemella serotina 'Herbststern', Sedum 'Autumn Joy', near Physocarpus opulifolius 'Brimstone and Fire' and a trio of Viburnum dilatatum 'Erie' - an opulent late season grouping... it's about as complete and perfect a September show one can put together in the garden (maybe add in one of the taller very late flowering daylilies - I think I'm gonna do it!) This is followed and overlapped with a hardy, late season mum, 'Cambodian Queen'. Wonderful. …or plop a big old pumpkin in front of a clump for a variation on a classic. 'Foxtrot' is a bit later, taller and colored a bit lighter than 'Redhead'. For best performance site ‘Fox Trot’ in sun planted in fertile moisture retaining soil. 'Foxtrot' is a clumping grass - it does not run. Division.
