Paeonia wittmaniana (not pure species, ex: Seneca Hill) – The gorgeous bowl-shaped flowers are a pastel creamy yellow some with a faint pink blush setting atop two-foot stems... really lovely. Free-flowering, these have budded and bloomed at the same time as P. japonica in some years and P. obovata in others. Eagerly we annually await their moment in the garden. Though we have had Paeonia wittmaniana planted in quite some shade it will set more flowers on more robust tubers sited in more sun. Plant this extraordinary peony in fertile draining soil.
