The ferny gray-green foliage is typically topped with striking red bowls sporting a showy yellow central boss. Site Paeonia tenuifolia subsp. lithophila in very well-drained to sharply drained soil amended with some organic matter. Plant all P. tenuifolia in full blazing sun. This subspecies hales from Romania. Pot grown peony from seed or division.
