Paeonia tenuifolia – is the Fern-leaf Peony. Emerging foliage is tinted purple. The foliage expands into refined and deeply cut segments with a very soft, feathery effect, quickly turning gray-green. This is a slow growing species and worth the wait. Single flowers are deep rich red with a large central yellow boss of stamens, blooming in middle spring, one of the earlier peonies to flower. Site Paeonia tenuifolia in fertile very well-draining soil planted in full sun. This lovely peony's native haunts are from southeastern Europe into southern Russia. Pot grown peony from seed or division.
