Lathyrus vernus 'Rosenelfe'

Spring Vetch

Plant Type:

SUN PERENNIALS

Lathyrus vernus ‘Rosenelfe’ – A charming pink flowering selection of Spring Vetch, sometimes commonly called Spring Vetchling. The showy axillary racemes sprout in early to mid spring. ‘Rosenelfe’ forms well-behaved clumps of very attractive semi-glossy pea-like foliage. Small mahogany-red pea pods dangle among the still clean green leaves later in the season. This is an underused perennial of great merit, attractive all through the growing season. They are beautiful contrasted with hellebores or as a fore-planting with medium-sized shrubs such as fothergilla. Site ‘Rosenelfe’ in part sun planted in fertile soil. This is a lovely and strictly clumping perennial. Though happiest in more sun 'Rosenelfe' is adaptable to some shade. The addition of dolomitic limestone is said be beneficial however we have ours planted in acid Ph woodland soil and they are thriving. Established, potted Spring Vetch via division.
