Disporopsis arisanensis

Evergreen Solomon's Seal

Plant Type:

SHADE PERENNIALS

Disporopsis arisanensis – This gorgeous woodlander is sadly ignored. Down south this will make an extraordinarily beautiful evergreen groundcover; so dense as to be a weed squelcher. Tough, thick and broad, rich green ellipses set alternately on strong, arching stems to about one foot or so in height. Each lustrous blade is attractively ribbed. Small ivory bell flowers, green to greenish-white at petal tips face down on short stems from leaf axils in late spring to early summer. Plant this beautiful addition to the growing list of worthy woodland perennials in humus-rich soil sited in open, dappled to part shade. Lovely evergreen ground cover farther south; after all, its common name is Evergreen Solomon Seal. These are gorgeous and full in 2-quart squares. This fine species should be getting more attention. Established potted perennial by old-fashioned division.
