Weigela praecox 'Korean Sunrise' (ex: Tom Horner) - Fragrant rose-pink funnels sport yellow throats. Flowers are relatively large, up to 1.25 inches long. Lovely early bloomer, the earliest Weigela to flower overlapping with W. subsessilis 'Canary'. It blooms on old wood in April/May. Leaves are oval and dark green. The outline of the shrub is rounded composed of densely set branches. It may exhibit some attractive fall tones but if this occurs it should be thought of as a bonus and not an annual feature. As this handsome shrub begins its flowering season in northeastern Connecticut the funnel-shaped flowers will be a draw for the now returning ruby-throated hummingbirds, butterflies and bees. Fertile draining ground in a fully to mostly sunny exposure. Established potted Weigela from cutting.
