Pachysandra procumbens 'Pixie Dragon'

Allegheny Spurge

Plant Type:

SHADE PERENNIALS

Pachysandra procumbens 'Pixie Dragon' - Mottled leaf lobes are notably serrated like a wood saw. It's the serrations which are a clear textural variant as compared to other selections. This should not be confused with the cultivar that had been simply known as 'Pixie'. 'Pixie' was thought to be a naturally dwarf form but instead was found to be stunted due to a virus which made it not only appear dwarf but gradually killed the plant. We had not know this fact until Charles Tubesing from the Holden Arboretum informed the larger plant world. 'Pixie Dragon' is a full-sized selection of the species. Plant in morning sun with afternoon shade, dappled sun or in open shade. Inter in modestly fertile to draining organic soil. The species hails from West Virginia to Louisiana to Florida. Where 'Pixie Dragon' may have been collected we are uncertain though we suspect in Virginia.
