Houstonia cearulea - Multitudes of 4-petaled blue flowers open in early to mid spring on 4-inch stems over dense mats of dark green tiny leaves. Delicate in appearance and diminutive in size Azure Bluets (aka Quaker Ladies) clump and cluster forming welcome colonies where content, each plant a solid dome of florets. Sweet and lovely Azure Bluets are found in sunny lawns, meadows, fields, roadside and hopefully in your garden. We grew up knowing them simply as Bluets. We love them and it cheers us when they appear in May. Houstonia cearulea prefers fertile, moisture retaining spots with full to half sun exposure. Azure Bluets occur over all of eastern North America but not in Florida. Established potted clump from division or seed.
