Dodecatheon meadia - Shooting Star is a striking perennial with its sharply recurved flowers like cyclamens with all sexual parts at the bottom ends like exploded tips of badminton shuttlecocks. This is the naturally occurring pink flowering type. This is a really easy-natured sun to open shade perennial when planted in fertile, moisture retaining soil. They look splendid with primulas, even dramatic with the deep red red-purple of Primula 'Redfield Hybrid' - very nice! Clustered tufts of light green matte-finish leaves set the stage for the fleshy, leafless spring flowering stems Foliage soon thereafter disappears making this a virtual spring ephemeral. Established potted Shooting Star from division.
