Beesia deltophylla - Lustrous heart-shaped evergreen foliage may grow to 12 inches in height. The vinyl-textured leaves are reminiscent of Asarum but finely saw-toothed at the margins. And the leaves are beautifully patterned with lighter-colored veining that creates a myriad of darker green zones. This will form a slow, aristocratic ground cover. Spikes of tiny white flowers arise in the late season. It's deer resistant but a good draw for pollinators and possibly the occasional hummingbird. Adaptable but best in fertile, moisture-retentive ground that drains; too wet and rot will ensue. Grit in the mix will be helpful. Early morning sun is acceptable but protect from harsh afternoon summer rays. Established potted Beesia by division.
