Wisteria frutescens 'Amethyst Falls'

American Wisteria

Plant Type:

VINES

Wisteria frutescens 'Amethyst Falls' - This fine American Wisteria offers multitudes of corpulent dangling racemes in fetching violet purple. It is clearly more red-purple than 'Blue Moon' when grown side by side... frightening thought. Each raceme is densely packed with lovely individual fragrant pea flowers. 'Amethyst Falls' may rebloom sporadically throughout the growing season. Bees, butterflies and hummingbirds like it but the deer don't. It's not invasive but is a vine, a rampant grower that will smother pergolas and other structures. But blossoms occur on new wood hence this fine vine can be pruned without hurting flowering potential. American Wisteria hugs the southern coastal plain trending inland into Arkansas and Kentucky. Where 'Amethyst Falls' emerged form seedling in a nursery or in the wild, well, we don't know! If anyone does know with certainty please contact us. Plant in fertile, draining ground in nearly full sun, dappled to open shade. More sun in the north is fine, more shade in the south is a pre-requisite. Northern gardeners should opt to plant American Wisteria in the the spring planting season. Established potted American Wisteria from cutting.
