Vitis vinifera 'Variegata' - This handsome variegated grape exhibits some pink along with the white on new green leaves. Cream-white irregular patches set up as new leaves expand. The variegation holds up all through the growing season. When days grow shorter and cool down in the late season the variegated patches and streaks turn pink to pink-violet before leaf drop. Drupes of small black grapes are gorgeous and add rich, classic opulence. A vining grape in the landscape is always an elegant feature. Full sun in fertile, draining soil with plentiful sun. Good open air flow around the vine will lessen the possibility of mildew though all bets are off in a really wet season. Dolimitic limestone in the planting hole will be beneficial. Vitis vinifera is native to southwest Asia, west to northern Iran, west to central Europe into southern Germany, south into the Mediterranean region and Portugal, into Morocco, Africa. Where the variegated sport of this esteemed vine with long history and import to man we do not know; our guess is it is of garden origin. For customers at the northern end of its range please consider spring planting. Established potted vine, cutting grown.
