Enkianthus cernnus f. rubens - Drooping Red Enkianthus displays dangling fringed deep red bells, 10 to 12 per raceme. Showy, the flowers are plentiful in late spring in northeastern Connecticut, casually beautiful as they generously adorn the foliage foil. Leaves are simple and alternate turning usually brilliant red in autumn though in some years foliage may range from orange, scarlet with or without gold highlights but, regardless, the show is always eye-catching. Will grow 8 to 9 feet, upright rounded form in 20 years. Half to full sun in fertile, ground on the acid end of the Ph spectrum. Enkianthus are not drought tolerant most especially at the southern end of the growing range. Established potted shrub, cutting grown.
