Sphaeralcea parvifolia - Large orange mallow florets are clustered from halfway up the stems to the tippity-tops in summer for many weeks. This perennial is awash in orange when in flower. Foliage is gray-green with the emphasis on gray due to the fine felt on leaves, petioles and stems. Open form with gently arching stems make for a somewhat vase-shaped plant. Inter in average sandy to scrabbled well-draining mix in full, blazing sun. It's fine in calcareous conditions. Great in the cactus / rock garden. And for those who like orange, well, this comes as close to rhyming with "orange" as occurs in any language! Can you say, "OJ, Tang, Jello, gummy bear?" From seed collected in Mesa County, Colorado (elevation 4,700 feet). Established potted mallow from seed.
