Drimiopsis maculata 'Indonesia Variegated' (ex: Jonathan Lehrer; tentatively identified, this genus is taxonoically confused) – Another fine selection of this wonderful, under-utilized and apparently under-appreciated species. Showy cream halos limn dull green elongated broad-lanceded leaves. The creamy variegation sometimes streaks on interior tissue as well. Furthermore, each leaf is decorated with multitudes of showy purple / brown-purple spots. When properly planted in a pot or in the ground the top of each bulb will set above the soil line... some of the younger semi-glossy bulbs manifest with stripes of dark bronze-purple and rich, deep violet-pink-purple. Honk and wowser!! How cool is that! Leaf stems are infused with pink to pink-purple. This is a gorgeous collector item to be sure. White scilla-like flowers set upon terminal spikes in summer can grow as tall as 12 inches on a mature, well-grown bulb; singularly they are attractive, en masse they are showy. And when a cluster flowers the white Grape Hyacinth-like spikes give rise to another common name, Little White Soldiers. Will make a beautiful windowsill plant where its fascinating features can be appreciated close up and year round. On a sill it can be nearly evergreen though dormancy is just as likely. Half to full sun in a draining mix. Keep it drier in winter. Established pot grown bulb(s).
