Achnatherum brachytricha

Diamond Grass

Plant Type:

GRASSES & GRASS-LIKE PLANTS

Achnatherum brachytricha – Diamond Grass is a warm season grass (meaning it blooms mid-late summer/fall) with lovely 6” to 8” silvery feathered inflorescences just touched with pink-violet standing above the narrow green blades. Diamond Grass forms a lovely, graceful, upright and soft-textured plant. It is splendid mixed with late season composite flowers, Joe-pye weeds and/or Anemone japonica cultivars. A grouping could provide strong contrast if associated with red or yellow-berried Viburnum dilatatum. A cluster would form a great backdrop for Chrysanthemums fore-planted with Colchicum. Wow! The uses for Diamond Grass go on and on! Site in exposures with full to afternoon sun planted in average soil or sandy loam – really, any soil that drains well. Divison.
