Helianthus salicifolius 'First Light' (PP13150) – This perennial Sunflower explodes in the late summer and autumn garden covering itself with warm, saturated golden yellow daisies with a darker central button. The entire stem including the mounded cushions of flowers will only grow 4 to 5 feet tall – much shorter and sturdier than many other perennial Sunflowers. Stems are very strong and support the bouquets so staking is unnecessary. 'First Light' makes a great cut flower, attracts butterflies, bees, potentially songbirds and is deer resistant. The golden yellow flowers which completely swamp the leaves and stems occur later in the season when other perennial Sunflowers have passed thereby extending the season. 'First Light' will work well with warm season grasses, nearly all other late season perennials including late daylilies and also shrubs which provide autumn berries and leaf color. Pot grown.
