Lysimachia atropurpurea – Striking spikes of dark, rich red-purple flowers arise in early summer above a dome of gray-green foliage. The unopened buds at tips of each inflorescence are a much deeper, dark and beautiful violet-purple. Foliage is a gray-green dome. Don't confuse this with the frightfully running, aggressive L. ciliata 'Purpurea'; Burgundy Gooseneck is a well-behaved perennial, a species unto itself that does not run nor has it ever self-sown here. And, for some odd reason, it is seldom offered. Try it. You won't be sorry. But please note: if purchased in autumn know what is genuinely feasible for your climatic zone. We recommend spring planting in the north. Site in full to part sun in a fertile, draining soil that holds onto some moisture between summer rains. From seed or cutting grown.
