Tamarix ramoissima 'Summer Glow'

Tamarisk

Plant Type:

DECIDUOUS SHRUBS

Tamarix ramoissima 'Summer Glow' - Soft, airy light blue foliage is topped with pink, open astilbe-like flowers in late spring well into the summer. It's a lovely thing. The upright arching shrub with its thread-like foliage catches breezes in the way that grasses do and just speaks of high summer as it mesmerizes us with its gentle blue and pink swaying. This is a great choice for full blazing sun, well-drained scrabbled/sandy soil and with its built-in salt tolerance it will look right at home at a beach house. It looks terrific in our xeric garden where customers ask about it annually. Some years the autumn foliage turns golden brown. 'Summer Glow' blooms on new wood so can be maintained lower, denser and shrubbier by an annual pruning when it's dormant... or after it flowers. This species is, apparently, a nuisance in parts of the Western U.S. though a native flycatcher prefers it in which to build its nests. But not here in the northeast. So, enjoy it! We do not know where 'Summer Glow' was selected but the species hales from Southeastern Europe and Asia. Cutting grown.
