Euonymus fortunei 'Vanilla Frosting'

Wintercreeper Euonymus

Plant Type:

BROADLEAF EVERGREEN SHRUBS

Euonymus fortunei 'Vanilla Frosting' (ex: Jonathan Lehrer) - When Jon brought us this plant in a trade gallon from afar I stated, "We already have Euonymus fortunei 'Kewensis'." "This is not 'Kewensis'", he retorted. "WOW", I exclaimed when upon closer examination I saw the irregular creamy white streaks and splashes in each of the tiny leaves. 'Vanilla Frosting' is the variegated 'Kewensis', both very dwarf selections of Wintercreeper Euonymus. Tiny rounded deep green leaves with lighter veining run up and down the stems. Most remain green touched with cream the year round; however, some turn bright fire engine red as the weather cools and the days shorten, like little rubies strewn among the emeralds. ‘Vanilla Frosting’ will form a mat or slowly climb upon a boulder or a trunk if you would like. If left to its own vices over time it actually grows onto itself forming an interesting cone-shaped structure like a pixie hut! It is adaptable from complete open shade to full sun in fertile to less than perfect soils, even clay. This is still very rare. For northern gardeners spring planting may be the wiser tactic. Cutting grown.
