Phygelius x capensis

Cape Fuschia

Plant Type:

SUN PERENNIALS

Phygelius x capensis (ex: John Franke) - Cape Fuschia makes a beautiful easy-care perennial clump with recurrent orange to coral-orange tubular flowers with a flaring mouth complete with dark red inner lip. Orange. These "medieval trumpets" are perfect hummingbird fare. Re-bloom is guaranteed especially if one prunes back spent flowers. Orange. New stems will arise from axils below the cut. In doing so one may achieve flowers nearly all summer over coarse, dark green foliage. The flowers are a great texture, gently casual and lax - we think exceptionally beautiful rivaling some of the finicky but extraordinary South African Cyrtanthus in look. We have gotten it through in our southward facing border near the foundation of our home. Orange. More often found growing in California we believe that it might be a perfect coastal or mid-Atlantic herbaceous candidate. Cape Fuschia may languish in the humid heat of southern summers, however. Crazy about orange flowers John Franke proudly arrived with this plant in hand. Thank you, John. We are uncertain if this is a hybrid or not but we believe so and are offering it as such. What rhymes with orange? ... just have another glass of wine... make it a small triple... it may come to you. Full sun in fertile, draining soil. Established pot from cutting.
