Sophora davidii

Shrub Pagoda Tree

Plant Type:

DECIDUOUS SHRUBS

Sophora davidii – This is a seldom offered large shrub with small pinnate leaves all within a mounding upright rounded form. White flushed with blue 2” to 3” racemes in multitudes, like small wisteria inflorescences composed of packed pea florets, adorn the shrub in early summer. Small “pea pods” dangle among the branches mid to late season. Yellow fall color, not significant, occurs in the occasional autumn. One autumn the foliage actually turned black just in time for Halloween – curious, fascinating if not eerie! This is a tough nitrogen fixing shrub which requires full sun. Plant Sophora davidii in any draining soil. Cutting grown.
