Leucojum vernum var. carpathicum

Spring Snowflake

Plant Type:

SHADE PERENNIALS

Leucojum vernum var. carpathicum – MULTIPLE BULBS IN EACH POT - at least 3. This woodland beauty arises in early spring displaying extra-large golden yellow to yellow-green tipped white bells, sometimes two per stem, growing about 6 to 8 inches tall. The deep emerald green blades stand angled away from the base of the flowering stem in a ring-around-the-rosy arrangement. This is a strong growing, great little ephemeral bulb – very showy. And it apparently emits a violet fragrance which I personally haven't wafted yet... they're too low to the ground when its still too cold and wet! Slow to increase Leucojum vernum var. carpathicum provides wonderful early season interest and in time will cluster. Curiously, though listed as hardy to -15 Celsius which equals 5 degrees Fahrenheit (if our converter is correct?) our bulbs have been situated in the garden for 15 years and have survived winters with lows in the minus teens. Open shade to morning sun in fertile, moist to draining soil. Pot grown bulb(s)... If ordered from our Autumn Catalog these will arrive dormant.
